PR2 damping contributions to DARM

J. Freed

Today we did damping loop injections on all 6 BOSEMs on the PR2 M1. This is a continuation of the work done previously for ITMX and ITMY

The gain on this instance was 750

The plots, code, and flagged frequencies are located at /ligo/home/joshua.freed/20241017/Scrpts. While the diaggui files are at /ligo/home/joshua.freed/20241017/Data

For PR2 all sensors had flags in the 8-12Hz range. Which implies couplings in that range

pr2_t3_20241017.png Shows an image of T3 during the time of injection vs the background which shows a clear picture of the possible coupling in the 8-12 Hz range

PR2HistogramofCouplings(allsensorsonM1).png  Shows a histogram of all instances at which the estimated maximum ambiant noise before injections was below the estimated ambiant noise during the injections of the different sensors and their freqeuncies (A.K.A. flagged frequencies). All sensors are included.  The most instances are in the 8-13Hz range with some in the 26Hz-28Hz and 46-47Hz range

PRCL coupling through other DOFs

Sheila and I have been investigating the source of the PRCL/DARM coupling that we observe. As a part of this investigation, Sheila has already run two sets of projections that investigate the PRCL coupling to DARM through the other LSC degrees of freedom, and through CHARD P and Y. Those can be found here: alog 80212 and alog 78969.

Today, I took the frequency noise injection from the noise budget, and added that projection to the total. To the point: PRCL coupling to DARM through frequency noise is smaller than PRCL coupling through the other LSC degrees of freedom, therefore it is not a significant source of coupling of PRCL to DARM. Figure 1 shows the projection of PRCL noise to DARM directly, as well as the projection through other degrees of freedom. Figure 2 shows all DOFs projected to DARM.

Some details:

The PRCL and frequency noise injections were rerun as a part of noise budget injections in 80596. The PRCL injection was run while CARM was only on REFL B, to better estimate the PRCL coupling through frequency noise.

The frequency noise injection is run by using REFL A as an out-of-loop sensor with CARM only on REFL B, therefore the frequency noise projection on one sensor will be higher by sqrt(2) in regions where CARM is limited by shot noise. In the past, we've estimated this to be below 4kHz, although we haven't checked recently. The frequency noise projection to DARM in these plots is divided by sqrt(2).

The notebook used to make these plots is located in /ligo/gitcommon/NoiseBudget/simplepyNB/PRCL_frequency_projections.ipynb

OPO temp needs adjusting after OPO PZT change and SQZ_ASC can realign after PSAMS change.

Vicky, Camilla

Two things to note form this morning's commissioning time before we cause a lockloss while we turned off the new PSAMS filter limit, sorry :(

  1. When the OPO locks with a different PZT voltage (did before commissioning time started and we lost 1bD of SQZ and 3MPc range), the temperature needs to be adjusted to re-optimize squeezing, alignment via ASC isn;t enough to bring back good squeezing, see attached plot. First t-cursor is OPO PZT re-lock, seconds t-cursors is OPO temperature change. We also ran SQZ_SQZ_ANG but that didn't make much of a difference.
  2. SQZ ASC worked well to bring back alignment after PSAMS changes, see plot, we reverted the PSAMs changes as didn't see SQZ get better/worse with ther different values tried.

Fast shutter bobbin/mirror assy can break even when they don't hit the hard stop (Fil, Betsy, Keita)

Recent report from LLO (LLO alog 73576) showed that the test that was sent from LHO to LLO broke because the hard stop was set to the low position and the bobbin/mirror assembly hit the stop hard.

While we were testing our "dirty spare" unit in the EE shop today, however, we have found that the same bobbin/mirror assy can break even when we're quite sure that it didn't hit the stop.

We set up the testing apparatus using the dirty spare FS, a spare driver D1400078 and FAST Shutter test board D1400208. We set the HV to 250V. We made sure that the hard stop was at its highest position.

The first 4 fast shutting motion was good, Fil and Betsy shot the slow-mo video and we are convinced that the bobbin/mirror assy didn't hit the stop. On 5th attempt, while nobody was shooting video, the mirror and a PEEK plate backing broke off and was shot into the air. On a closer inspection we see partial delamination of the glass and PEEK, but it's not like the delamination is the main reason why the PEEK failed. Also a small chunk of the glass was ripped apart from the mirror and left inside the bobbin where the glass was glued to the bobbin and the coil.

Betsy and Fil will post pictures/video later.

Attached is the video of the dirty unit firing CLOSED but before the episode where the mirror broke off.  Also a snapshot capturing the frame when the Bobbin assembly (D1003319) was in the most UP/CLOSED position in it's bounce.  It does not look like it rammed into the hard stop viton bars.

ASC Lockloss During LOWNOISE ASC to LOWNOISE ESD ETMX

H1's had a bit of a rough go the last day(s).
Just had a lockloss at LOWNOISE_ESD_ETMX with ASC signals getting noisy over 2-min prior to the lockloss (see attached for a look at the lead-up to the lockloss, with a burst seen on the Error Signals [mainly MICH P & Y] and then the slow ring-up for several ASC channels [with CHARD & CSOFT pitch signals being noticeable culprits].  Additionally, the PR GAIN channel also rung up with ASC.).

For the next lock, I'll pause at MAX POWER to see if this helps, and then watch ASC when stepping through next steps.

(Additionally--around the lockloss there was an earthquake bump (0.03-0.1Hz) around that time, AND we are also riding through increased winds for the last 3hrs...but they seem to be slowly calming down).

Paused for ~1min for the states around where that last lockloss was.  Saw no signals ringing up.  Eventually made it to NLN.  Violins are high (but atleast they are still on nuc30's DARM plot (at 1e-15) and appear to be slowly coming down on nuc31's DCPD scope.

It also should be mentioned, environmentally, no earthquakes and the winds have drastically calmed down in the last 30min.  (But really all the environmental noisiness does not seem too crazy or bad....so perhaps H1, for some reason, is more susceptible/sensitive to seismic noise?)

ITMX coil driver states wrong overnight, error in safe.snap

Overnight the ITMX coil driver states were wrong, causing the ASC controls to satuate the PUM durring acquisition.  (This become aparent when the DHARD gains are increased at the end of DHARD WFS, which happens right before PARK_ALS_VCO 80699)

This used to be reset in ISC_LOCK PREP_FOR_LOCKING state, this has been commented out (line 618), with a note that SDF will take care of this, this has been commented out in the guardian for over a year.  Indeed. we found that the coil driver state was incorrectly set to 3

The attached screenshot shows the error was introduced to the safe.snap sometime between 2:30 and 5 pm yesterday, as it was correctly reset in the first two locking attempts of the day, but wasn't correctly reset after the lockloss at 5 local time last night.

Below are updates and promising findings concerning the most recent BBSS LHO Top Mass -4mm BP Adjustments to tackle the F1 Drift issue summarized in alog 80577.

On Friday 10/11, Oli P and I moved the blade positions (mm BP Units) to:

Front Left: Side: 0.02, Top: -4.03 Back Left: Side: -0.03, Top -3.90 Front Right: Side: 0.02, -3.91 Back Right: Side: -0.05, -3.95 Avg: Side: -0.01 Height: -3.95

Find:

The good news is that with these 4.5 days of Data, we see no sign of F1 Drift.

We will post another alog with TF to model comparisons as we find which model d1 parameter fits these -4mm BP positions best.

Adding this Pitch Plot (which still shows no drift!) to give a measure of how much the diurnal moves day-to-day. Plot attached shows a max of 31.8 cts trough to peak max.

This is such that future drift measurements (e.g. at LLO) can try new configurations quickly and measure the prevailing drift without getting caught in the daily pitch breathing error.

Changed SDF values for Pcal Yend

DriptaB, LouisD, TonyS, FranciscoL

We noticed a 0.4% change from the value at the end of O4a for the X/Y ratio. We found alog 76562 where the Pcal EY EPICS values were changed. We have now changed them back to O4a values. See screenshot of SDF screen to find values. We will follow up with an updated value of X/Y to see if anything went wrong.

For future reference: steps to update SDF

  1. 'caput' the channels to be changed
  2. sitemap --> CAL EX(Y) --> GDS --> SDF TABLE --> ACCEPT (under select all, only afer triple checking numbers) --> CONFIRM.
  3. SDF RESTORE SCREEN --> ! SELECT REQUEST FILE --> open "safe.snap" --> LOAD TABLE. Look for differences and confirm changes if needed (was not needed for EY).
  4. Load OBSERVE.snap by following step (3).
  5. Open FORCE COEFF CALCULATION and check that changes were applied.
