Deja Vue all over again, FMY down once more
h2susb78 (SUS FMY) crashed for the third time last night at 20 mins to midnight (so it is unlikely to be human activity). We are working on taking FMY out of the IOP and model DACKILL watchdogs for SEI BSC8 until we can fix this stability problem.

H2 SUS ITMY, 2012-05-29 Measurements
J. Garcia, S. Steplewski

We made a set of TOP transfer function measurements on ITMY Tuesday. This was the first time we tested ITMY since this chamber was pumped down. Measurements were clean and the results match up reasonably well with the (fiber) model - although this is a wire rehang after the fiber break.

The .mat files are located in:
~/SusSVN/trunk/QUAD/H2/ITMY/SAGM0/Data/
~/SusSVN/trunk/QUAD/H2/ITMY/SAGR0/Data/

The .pdf files are located in:

~/SusSVN/trunk/QUAD/H2/ITMY/SAGM0/Results

Mark Barton, Szymon Steplewski

We changed the parameters in the Mathematica model for the QUAD suspension for ITMY to reflect the fact that the glass test mass is suspended from steel wires after the fiber break. These changes have resulted in noticeably better agreement between the measurements and model for several degrees of freedom.

The TOP Pitch to Pitch mode around 1.4 Hz has shifted to higher frequency (from about 1.31 Hz to 1.44 Hz), while the Pitch mode near 0.56 Hz is practically unchanged, which is where we want it according to the design requirements. The TOP Longitudinal to Longitudinal plot also shows some nice improvement in the mode around ~1.5 Hz, which matches up a little more with the "wirerehang" model now.

There is now a new wirerehang Mathematica model in the SUS SVN under

~/trunk/Common/MathematicaModels/QuadLite2Lateral/mark.barton/20120601TMproductionTMrehang/

which was built from elements of the fiber model under

~/trunk/Common/MathematicaModels/QuadLite2Lateral/mark.barton/20120601TMproductionTM/

We have added 'wirerehang' to the list of case models for plotting in Matlab, so the different cases are now:

1. 'wire'
2. 'fiber'
3. 'erm'
4. 'thincp'
5. 'wirerehang'

ETMY Optical Lever Beams Identified.

We found 4 bright beams coming out of the viewport, two pairs belonging to ETMY and the other two from ERM. The two upper spots on the picture are from the ERM, the lower ones from ETMY. This was confirmed by moving the ERM, when doing so the two upper spots moved, while the other two remain still. The beam from the front surface of ETMY is the lowest spot on the photo.

ISI - BSC6

I performed the last checks (Spectra, static tests, pressure sensors checks, CPS offsets) on the ISI before the chamber closeout at BSC6. I started a last set of transfer functions for the night on ISI-BSC6 while Jeff.G is measuring L2 transfer functions on ITMY.

HAM ISI: #5 In Can, #6 CPS, #7 Optics Table De-tanged

(corey, eric, greg, hugh,  jim w, mitch)

#5

Last couple of days, we have prepped this ISI to put it in a box.  This afternoon, this ISI should be canned for your enjoyment.

#6

Not much going on with this assembly since we are waiting for hardware for the Actuators and CP Sensors.  I installed the CPS Sensor Heads on their mounting hardware (the mini-racks are on floor under the ISI).

#7

Optics Table has been de-tanged & now removing broken tangs.  Stage-0 can be put on Assembly Stand as soon as #5 is boxed.

ICC Re-Oxidation Experiment
Robert Schofield asked for a controlled experiment to document the behavior of chamber cleaning wipes when exposed to air. Random samples of three types were pulled from various sections of BSC2: last wipe (isopropanol soaked), glove wipe, and dry wipe. The wet "last wipes" are hung up in the OSB Optics lab on a wire strung across a flow bench. Please do not disturb the wipes.

h2 FMY front end glitch and crash, IPC took ITMY down
The H2 FMY front end computer (h2susb78) sent IPC Dolphin error glitches which IOP tripped the SEI for BSC8 in several separate occasions between 9am and 09:30 this morning local time. At 10:10 the front end locked out, no ping, no ssh, console stuck at last log message. All lights looked good on the front end, but the only recovery was to power cycle the computer. This in turn crashed h2susb478 (ITMY front end) because of the Dolphin drop out. We took the opportunity to recompile the SUS ITMY model since it had not been built since Apr 11th and was missing the DACKILL part (RCG branch 2.5 build).

I took the opportunity to rebuild the temporary optlev model to make it generic. A H2 DAQ restart was also performed, the master file was changed and the OVERVIEW medm regenerated.

The cause of h2susb78 problems is not known, but there is some work progressing around BSC8 at the times in question.

BSC06 ETMy Pitch Alignment
IAS: J. Oberling
SUS: B. Bland, T. Sadecki

We adjusted pitch this morning with no First Contact on the ETMy to correct for the pitch error induced by the First Contact.  The pitch was adjusted to 623 µrad down which is 16 µrad away from our target (639 µrad down) and well within the ±160 µrad spec.

BSC8 - ISI and HEPI

HEPI:
Last week, the L4C gain of the pier modules were increased from 22 to 333. The transfer functions measured over the week end showed that this new gain is appropriate. No saturations on the L4Cs during the measurements.
I will start to work on controllers for the HEPI pretty soon.

ISI:
This morning, I fixed the isi2stagemaster.mdl and recompiled ISI-BSC6 and ISI-BSC8 due to an error mentioned in a previous aLOG.
I installed the new aLIGO BSC-ISI matrices freshly computed. I posted them in the SVN at /BSC-ISI/Common/Basis_Change_BSC_ISI/aLIGO/Matrices/Y/aLIGO_BSC_ISI_Matrices_Direction_Y.mat
I installed using one measurement:
- Symmetrization filters (actuators, geophones)
- Damping filters (stage 1 and 2)
- Blend filters (basic filters with a blend at 750mHz).
- Isolation filters. I haven't spent time on tuning. The goal is just to make sure the scripts and the model are ready. (UUG=15Hz, comfortable gain and phase margin).

I have attached spectra of the ISI undamped and controlled:

First Contact effects on optic pitch
Jason, Travis and Doug,
Jason measured the ETMy pitch just prior to the First Contact removal from the H2 ETMy optic.
the pitch was 629urads down (req is 639 urads down)

After the first Contact was removed it change to 379 urads down (a change of 250urads)

This is near what was predicted for a 1.74g weight First Contact coating.

Note: This was not accounted for on the H2 ITMy or measured.

We should possibly measure this for each optic or compensate for it in the calculations as we will also be adding additional weight with the new plan for using First Contact which will remain in place until just before we close up.

HAM-ISI Unit #4 (HAM2)- Chamber Side Testing - CPS Investigation

Vern, Hugo,

During the chamber side testing HAM-ISIs are locked. Part of the testing consists in measuring the DC voltages outputted by the CPSs to make sure that the probes and the electronics are still functional. This measurement is taken at the BNC output of the ADE boxes.

We recently observed that the voltages we measured depended on the number of probes that were connected to the ADE Boxes. We also noticed that the voltages measured with only one probe connected to the ADE boxes were high in comparison to what we expect on a locked ISI.

Vern and I investigated it this afternoon:

The voltage measured at the BNC output of the ADE boxes would then match our expectations (0V +/- 4V), without varying with the number of probes that were connected.

We tried disconnecting the grounding cable between the test stand and the ADE boxes. The DC voltage read on the ADE boxes increased and became dependent on the number of probes that were connected, again. This latest observation confirms that the issues we experienced on the CPSs were related to the grounding of the ADE boxes.

conclusion:

Voltages and noise spectra were re-measured for each CPS and HAM-ISI Unit #4 (HAM2) chamber side testing report is being updated.
